Rosaire de la Croix, mercenary for many years, traveling the mainland in search for battle and blood, set foot on Arelithian soil searching for nothing more than to get by, and to possibly one day amass fortune. Unaware of the island's politics and functioning, he set up a mercenary company named The Cleaved, and set about to business.
The man, while not being a genius, had some savvy and a certain base cunning which allowed him to weave alliances, but also garnered him enemies. Ultimately, it is in those early alliances and feuds that he would be shaped, and a part of the island with him. He quickly struck friendship with Ayin Mesmer and Sandrhir Leonas, supporting them steadfastly with his mercenaries. At the same time, he would prove a constant thorn in the side of other prominent figures of the time, many of them fancying themselves his 'nemesis'.
One could safely say that Rosaire's implication in Cordor's and the island's, though less so, political landscape had some unforeseen consequences. His appointment to the position of General of Cordor proved both the dangers and advantages of having a separate military force dedicated to the council before the law. Once Mesmer retired from politics, his succession to be taken by Sandrhir Leonas, the period known as 'The Triumvirate' amongst pro-Rosaire historians began. Rosaire, having struck a friendship with Orion Gend, a prominent Amnish merchant, while supporting the claims of Sandrhir Leonas to council, led to the formation of a tripartite power, Political might held by Leonas, Military power by de la Croix, and monetary resources and acumen held by Gend.
The actions of the so called Triumvirate - the three started to slowly fill positions of power with sure allies, ultimately culminating in de la Croix's arrest, which was overturned, starting a period of a month of Martial law, along with the temporary disbanding of the guard - also showed that the council was eminently powerful, if not kept in check. Although ultimately, Gend abandoned the Triumvirate and presumably ran off with Cordor's coffers, while de la Croix was exiled and Leonas imprisoned, this was not to mark the end of the man's career as a military leader, as he would go on to foment perhaps what could be considered his most daring plot.
De la Croix, furious at having been exiled from Cordor, began to plot the overthrow of the Cordorian regime, and not only that, but the creation of a human empire on the island. Gathering what resources he had left after the semi-official disbanding of his mercenary company, which always had been the backbone of his power, he started to make plans along with long time associates. Ultimately however, leaks and betrayals from within the conspirators caused the failure of the plot. Luckily for him however, Rosaire's love interest, Anya Drea, was a councillor. Barging in the Cordorian jail, she freed him and they left Cordor together.
They last officially were seen by Gaelyn, who presumably killed the pair, at least by his account. Some say that they in fact escaped the island, some others say that they are still in hiding in some secluded location on Arelith. What one can divine from Rosaire's overall impact on the island is mainly the shift in Cordorian political climate to one of intense suspicion and mistrust. The man himself has been said to have been both vile and saintly. As to who says the truth, one cannot say, but it is likely the truth lies somewhere between the two interpretations.
