The Winds of Winter. WARNING! SPOILERS. People who have seen A Game of Thrones but not read the books should stay away.
Just to repeat the warning. This thread is in regards to a book by George R. R. Martin, which some of us are greatly anticipating. It is part of the series "A sing of Ice and Fire", which the HBO tv show Game of Thrones is based upon. So if you have not read the books, and love the tv show, you do not want to read the following.

Spoilers from this point... You have been warned..

I am so worked up about when he will release this book. It has been only two years since A Dance With Dragons I know. But he apparently has plenty of chapters written out. He had a Theon chapter on his website a while, which has now been replaced with an Arianne chapter. He has also done a reading of a Victarion (my fav char) chapter, two Barristan Selmy Chapters, and a Tyrion Lannister chapter. Besides these, he removed a few chapters with Aeron Greyjoy the Damphair, Arya Stark, Sansa Stark and Arianne Martell from a Dance with dragons for use in Winds of Winter instead.

So we know of the first ten chapters, and we have readings from a good few. You can find details out on some websites where very hardcore fans have taken some serious notes for some of the chapters read. Though for a few of George's reading you can find videos.

So ten chapters we know of, which means he no doubt has tonnes more. When oh when will we get it? Will it be 2-3 more years, since he is also now more busy working as a consultant for A Game of Thrones and doing a lot of book signings and readings and other stuff cause he's gotten stunningly famous the last few years. This no doubt cuts time of his writing process. And he sadly does not look too healthy or young for that matter.. Love his humor though.

A dance with Dragons left so many questions. Did Jon really die? Will Mellisandre resurrect him? Is Stannis going to take Winterfell and kill those Gods damned Boltons? We can expect the Iron Born on Victarions fleet to attack the Slavers laying siege to Mereen, but how are they going to get along with Barristan afterwards until or when Daenerys gets back? Barristan must have been part of Roberts forces that crushed the first Greyjoy rebellion. And isn't Victarion like to just slaughter everyone and try and catch the two dragons sill in Mereen. He does have the Horn, though it might not help him, even if he gets others to blow it for him.

Is Littlefinger going to kill Robert Arryn and initialize Sansas marriage with Harrold Hardyng quicker to get the Vale into the war? It is hard to judge if he wants to help her her or wants her for himself.. Petyr Baelish was the one who got Lysa to poison Jon Arryn. I'd give my right arm to know his true intention, besides world domination. And Arya to be a Faceless Girl, so to speak. While Victarion is my favorite character, my favorite storyline is that of Arya. Must! know! more!

Is Jaime going to get whacked by an undead Catelyn Stark? is Brienne Really going to just hand him over? Aegon has landed in Westeros with the Golden Company, will Doran Martell send the spears of Dorne to war for his sisters son? The dragon has three heads. Daenerys, Aegon and who... Is jon Stark really the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna? And if so, how will that work out as a thing kept alive through the power of the red priests.

Then there is all the stuff I forgot.. The waiting is pure torture, it's like waiting for book three all over again, when he build up to these grandscale epic showdowns.

Will we get it sometime this year? or will have to wait for 2014? Gods forbid, 2015?

I suppose that as a Dane, descending from vikings, I can relate to the line in feast of crows that goes
"The Drowned God had not shaped Victarion Greyjoy to fight with words at Kingsmoots, nor struggle agaisnt furtive sneaking foes in endless bogs. This was why he had been put on earth; to stand steel-clad with an axe red and dripping in his hand, dealing death with every blow."

I was born in the wrong age, lol. jokes aside.

Hehe i dunno, I think he just badass to the bone, straight forward, not too bright, but from what we are told in the books he is a great warrior, and he would give half his fleet for a chance to fight the Knight of Flowers or the Kingslayer. He is just badass yes..

"No man calls Victarion Greyjoy a fool and lives to boast about it". And well... that guy died...

Yeah I've read all the books and I am very psyched for WoW (oh my did I just...).

Anyway I feel it is about darn time things step up a bit in the series. A Dance With Dragons was pretty slow and not that much happened. We only have 2 books left in the series so I am expecting a lot of things to happen in the Winds of Winter. I believe its time to start wrapping things up if this epic saga is gonna fit in these two last books.

Also I think GRRM stated that no new "secondary POV characters" will be introduced. He will just focus on those we already known. Perhaps a minor chapter of some character might pop up but no big ones. Which is a good idea. I think we got plenty of characters in these books already Smile

Well here's hoping for some drastic, much needed, moving the plot forward stuff. Get Daenerys to Westeros already! It's about bloody time Smile

Deadin.. checked out Vikings..

And while not to shabby at all (fair to say I think I am hooked, thanks!), these are no true Ironborn.. they still fear drowning.

As in, they are wearing near to none metal armor, unlike say Victarion, head to toe in steel.

Drowning was actually feared in northern mythology. The seas were ruled by Rán, a female Jötunn married to Aegir, and the myth was that she caught sailors in her net drowning them, taking them down on the ocean floor in her kingdom. Vikings wanted to die in battle, so the Valkyries could bring their souls to Valhalla. So sailors would often bring gold with them even if going raiding for some, and keep it on them, so if they should drown, Rán would be pleased with their offerings.

As for the Hound, I am hoping he will have to face his undead brother, the late Gregor Cleglane, and the current Robert Strong.

I thought a dance with dragons had plenty of awesome stuff though. Aegon was revealed. and the chapter with Melisandre was -very- interesting I thought, not to mention, Bran and the trees and Aryas stroyline training as a faceless (wo)man. I even enjoyed Cercei's downfall since I have been wanting to see that whore die so much so long. And baristan Selmy's (who must be my second favorite char) chapters were uber awesome as well. That dude is just so badass. I can't wait to see him and Victarion trying to get along. Victarion doesn't have all his fleet, think he had 60 ships left or so, not enough, so he wants to grab the dragons and Daenerys fast, before the Volantheese fleet arrive and join with the yunkai and the rest. But that wont be happening with the dragon Queen gone. I am dreading Victarion's meet with Baristan.

Lets just hope he settles for 2 books, not three, he has made no final promises of 7 total. Though, of course, that depends on the quality of the rest, and whether George will stay around for as long as it'll take to finish.

As for the chapters of Winds of winter, I suppose it makes sense with no new viewpoints, he has after all now introduced all the overlord houses and most the minors in the seven kingdoms (Go dorne).

And I forgot. I want to find out what the hell Jaqen H'Gar is doing disguised at Pate at the citadel!

I disliked Dance with Dragons a great deal, because I absolutely hated Daenerys' chapters. I want her to die in a hole.

I have found the quality of storytelling in ASoFaI has drifted and meandered and run amok since A Clash of Kings.

Hopefully he can redeem himself in the upcoming future.

The portuguese publisher of the books did a smart thing (specialy for their pockets) and when the books were released here, they split them into smaller books, making it a larger collection, spread out more evenly through time.

So, while you guys have read some four or five books, I have read 8 or 9.

All of it being said, I agree with pretty much everything everyone has said above, I will just add that I have always had this curiosity about rickon and his wolf. As the younger of the starks, all that has happened will affect him differently, and as he grows up, I wonder what sort of role GRR will give him.

I'm in agreement with Seven. Daenerys' storyline is seriously lacking. I don't enjoy reading about her.

And Chelomo, I want Hound back too!
